PDO Thread Lifts

Thread lifts, ‘threading’ or ‘PDO threads’ have become a minimally invasive alternative to a facelift for patients who are not ready to undergo more invasive surgical treatment options.

Although the effects from a thread lift will be approximately 18 months in duration and not as dramatic as a surgical facelift, improvement in the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles can be seen both immediately and gradually as the procedure stimulates natural collagen production. PDO sutures are a type of material used for thread lifts. PDO, which stands for polydioxanone, is a long-lasting, absorbable polymer that is flexible and durable.

PDO thread lifts come in a variety of textures. At Evolve Aesthetics, we use three main textures of PDO sutures: MONO, Cog/Barbed/Suspension threads, and Double Screw threads.

Types of Threads

  • MONO threads are smooth threads without barbs. Many of these thread type are placed into the face in a mesh-like fashion for skin tightening and mild lift. MONO threads are designed as a rejuvenation skin treatment.

MONO thread treatment is beneficial for skin tightening, skin thickening and to improve skin texture thus reducing the appearance of wrinkles. Once inserted into the skin, PDO mono threads activate collagen synthesis to gradually tighten and rejuvenate the skin. This provides the skin with a tighter feel and appearance and a more youthful look. Skin tightening occurs after collagen starts forming around the threads, providing ‘scaffolding’ to the facial structures. Typically, around 10-30 PDO MONO threads are used to treat an area, often more!

  • Cog threads have barbs that hook onto the skin to provide support and immediate lift to sagging tissue. They are the most dramatic non-surgical alternative to ‘lift’ and ‘pull’ areas of the face.

The barbs, or cogs along the length of each COG thread aims to fix the skin in a position to give the appearance of a minor facelift. Typically, the depth of placement for a Cog PDO Thread is the subcutaneous tissue and the effect is twofold, with an immediate lift due to the barbs being activated and hooking into the underside of the skin and long-lasting effect due to the gradual metabolism of the thread which leads to skin rejuvenation. Cog PDO Threads are commonly used to lift the cheeks helping to correct nasolabial folds, along the jawline to reduce the appearance of jowls, in the neck to help correct sagging skin.

This procedure is particularly effective for lifting the brow and eye area, creating a more open eye, lifted brow or ‘fox eye’/ ‘cat eye’ lift.

Results with Cog/Suspension threads are immediate and continue to improve after two to three months as your body finishes producing new, healthy collagen.

Please note, a Suspension Thread Lift using Cog/barbed threads are an advanced technique. Evolve Aesthetic clinicians have been trained one-on-one and continue to be supported by VA Medical Cosmetic Physicians.

Initial Consultation is recommended prior to treatment.

  • A Double Screw Thread is formed by intertwining two mono threads together around the inserting needle. It has a significant effect on giving volume to the sunken areas in the face.

Double Screws are often used for general face lifting and volumising, which helps to attain a more defined jawline and chin.

Sunken areas of the face can be revitalised and rejuvenated using this variety of thread. Brow lifting, buccal hollowing, cheeks, marionette lines and NL Folds are all suitable for Double Screw Thread treatment.

Skin Boosters

Skin Boosters are a dermal filler designed to be injected superficially into the surface of the skin to produce skin hydration and glow.

Skin Boosters are micro-injections of dermal fillers in the skin. Unlike traditional dermal fillers, they are not injected beneath the skin to volumise or shape the face.  Instead, they are very fine dermal fillers that are injected into the skin to hydrate and improve skin quality. This type of dermal filler can be injected over large treatment areas of the face, neck, and hands to increase the skin’s hydration quality.  During the treatment, the multiple injections activate the fibroblasts promoting new collagen and elastin formation The result is healthy-looking, glowing, and plump skin.

Rejuran

Rejuran is a popular skin rejuvenation treatment that has gained popularity in recent years. Originally developed in South Korea, Rejuran is an injectable that utilises polynucleotides to promote skin healing and improve various skin concerns. With its regenerative properties, Rejuran has become a sought-after treatment for enhancing skin quality and addressing signs of ageing.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Rejuran is composed of polynucleotides, which are long chains of nucleotides derived from salmon DNA. These polynucleotides have been cleft into smaller fragments to ensure better absorption by the skin. When injected into the dermis, Rejuran stimulates the skin's natural repair and regeneration mechanisms.

The polynucleotides in Rejuran work by providing the skin with essential building blocks for cell repair and rejuvenation. This includes promoting collagen synthesis, improving skin elasticity, and enhancing overall skin health. Rejuran also helps to improve blood circulation and reduce inflammation, resulting in improved skin texture and resilience.

  • Common side effects may include redness, swelling, or bruising at the injection site, which usually subsides within a few days.

  • While there may be some initial slight swelling or papules on the treated areas immediately after the treatment, this will subside within 24 hours and you can go about your day activities as usual.

  • The whole face can be treated with REJURAN ® including the temples and periorbital areas. REJURAN ® provides benefits to target aging and damaged skin.

  • A course of 3 treatments with intervals of 2-3weeks between sessions, followed by a treatment every 6-12 months to nurture a healthy skin condition.
